Dark Waves media indigenous Inc embrace's the digital, cyber and technological evolutions for the benefit of broadcasting Australian indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders peoples and their stories. It also endeavors to revitalise and share with the world our many diverse indigenous cultures and Languages by producing programs for broadcast (WEB,TV, Radio) to share and inform our community and breakdown the misconceptions of our peoples to the wider public.

The organisation aims to engage and interact with members of the community who are at the grassroots level by doing so it will:

- Establish an elders and youth council that will steer the organisation where community ideas and projects can be developed

- Insure that any information about our communities is accurate and more accessible for our communities, the wider public and the world

- Develop and produce programs for WEB, TV, and Radio produced by members of the community.

- Encourage sponsorship and advertising to generate monies to sustain the organisation so as to not depend on Government funding and for members of the community to gain employment.

Since its inception on the 26th August 2009 Dark Waves has slowly began to establish its National organisation based in Victoria

Dark Waves believes that there is a stronger need to communicate indigenous ideas, thoughts and feelings about the world that we live in  and that the "mainstream" media isn't effective enough to do so. With the community at the helm leading the organisation they have the opportunity to share their own stories of our Past, Present and what we hope to achieve in the future while engaging with the wider public.

To maximise community envolvment Dark Waves media has established two councils and Elders council and a Youth council and these council will be eventually established in each State or Territory. At present we are based in Victoria but Dark Waves is a National organisation and is working tirelessly to establish media hubs acorss Australia for the benifit of indigenous communities to have a real true voice in today's world.

The aim of these council is so that communities can have forums and workshops and from these initiate ideas to produce media content managed, owned and produced by people especially from the grassroots. It also aims to a better website and stream audio and Vision so that indigenous local content can be developed into programs for web such as:

- Local (State or Territory) indigenous news and current affairs programs

- Learning language programs told by members of the community with english text

- An aunty cooking show, sharing with us how to make eg Kangaroo with Lychee sauce on a bed of mashed Yam

- Prison shows (80% of prisons in Australia are filled with our peoples)

-Vibrant communities and what are the things that they are doing well

- Health shows

- Up and comming events in the community

As you can see there are so many areas and issues that we as Aboriginal and TSI people can shead light on that can be told by our own mouths from people who live or who are from our commuities. Most media when we see or hear it in "Mainstream TV, radio" the majority or the time they paint our peoples with a not so flattering brush and our voices are not heard. This was one of the main reasons to establish Dark Waves.

Dark Waves is a play on the words, Waves meaning sound waves, Digital Waves, Radio waves ect and Dark is a play on skin tone but not representing just one colour but many as in Dark Tan, Dark Brown and all the different shades in between. So when and Indigenous or TSI person hits the "Air waves" or they broadcast from a radio station those air waves become "Dark Waves".

Karen Minniecon is the sole founder of Dark Waves media, technonolgies, music, arts, culture, heritage, language and training.
