NSW INDIGENOUS NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS
AFL kicks off next week
The first games of the season kicks off this week on the National
Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS).
On Friday March 26, Geelong plays Essendon at 7:40 (AEST) at the MCG.
Then on Saturday March 27 the Brisbane Lions play the West Coast
Eagles at the Gabba from 8:10 (AEST).
The NIRS AFL Broadcast team is proudly made up over both Indigenous
and non-Indigenous callers including Barry Denner, Andrew Underwood and
Richard Griffiths, with former greats including Gilbert McAdam, Ronnie
Burns, Glenn James, Mark Browning, Peter "Crackers Keenan" and a new
addition to team of former Brisbane Lion's triple premiership player,
Chris Johnson.

Meeting in Melbourne to discuss how to
curb rates of diabetes

Health Experts, Business identities and Indigenous leaders will
meet in Melbourne today to discuss how to curb the rate of diabetes
among Indigenous Australians.
The forum is being hosted by the Chairman of the Indigenous Chamber
of Commerce, Warren Mundine.
Professor, Paul Zimmit of the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute
is speaking at the conference and says diabetes affects about 30% of the
Indigenous population.
